I find it so hard to finish series even if they're some of my favorites, because.. Well, I guess it's the mere pressure of wanting to like the final book, hoping that all the build-up until now was worth the climax and that the storylines and characters will be left in a good place for me to say goodbye to them. For a short period of time, anyway. You never know when you find yourself re-reading books. These things sneak up on you unexpectedly, at least for me they do, heh. Plus, sometimes the excitement I once had for a series has disappeared into thin air and I can't seem to find it anywhere. Luckily, this has happened only on very few occasions.
Anyhow, some books have been on my shelf for so long without finishing the entire series and some amazing ones are wrapping things up this year so I really want to be there and see the endings through. I have finished 2 series I planned to finish in 2014 and one of them was good, one was just very meh. It makes me very wary of how the rest of the books I'm planning to read will go, but hopefully they're good. Let's see what I'm planning to read, shall we? :)

That's A LOT of series to finish and I'm pretty darn scared, to be honest with you. I probably won't finish all of them, but I'll try my best to do so and hopefully will manage to finish at least 75% of them. That's my goal and if I'll be able to finish more than 75%, that's like an extra bonus lol. Plus, there are more, but these are the main ones that I'm planning on finishing. I think I'll update this list in July when half the year is over and then at the end of the year. This is going to be hard, but I know that if I push myself, I'll be able to finish at least half of them with flying colours.
Do you guys have many series that you have left unfinished or do you always try to finish them? How come you don't finish them? What are some of the series you'd like to finish and some you'd like to start?
I guess I have a lot of unfinished series since I just ditch them if the prev. book doesn't work for me. I actually might make a post similar to this some day because I'm really curious to see exactly how many series I've read and are in the middle of.
ReplyDeleteLovely post, Siiri! <33
I have such a difficult time finishing series! Sometimes, book one doesn't work for me and I give up completely. Or sometimes I love the first few books but just don't feel like reading the rest for a long time. I really want to complete more series but it's just really difficult for me! D: I haven't finished any of the series you listed (but of course, some of them aren't complete yet but I've read the ones that are out) and I probably have a lot more I need to finish! D: Good luck with all these, Siiri!
ReplyDeleteOh and I would love to buddy read the rest of the Dust Lands series (I've only read the first), The Darkest Minds (again, I only read the first) and maybe some others if I can catch up with you! :D
I have so many series that I still need to read too! I really should make a list like you have so I have more of a realistic chance of finishing them off. I'm so glad to see Laini Taylor's, Perkin's, Han & Vivian and LaFever's series on your lists, these books I am excited about, but also really sad that they will be coming to an end :( I'm totally up for reading His Fair Assassin series with you whenever you want to. Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely terrible with finishing series, especially since every single book we read nowadays seems to be a new series. I'm pretty disciplined with knowing if I want to continue though, and known to abandon them at the start of the series if I'm not enjoying it. I'd be scared to see what my own list is like!

I don't think I have as many unfinished series as you do, but I admit that it takes me a very long time to finish for some reason. There are some books in series that I pounce on immediately on release dates but others I will take months to get to. It's probably because I'm not as invested in them as I want to?
ReplyDeleteThe Wolves of Mercy Falls for example is one I've left unfinished. Then there are also the series I refuse to read because I already know how they end (I'm pretty sure which book exactly I'm talking about! ;) ). I'd rather be reading something awesome than finishing a series ending that is just plain sloppy, you know?
I need to get to Jessica Spotswood series and the Unearthly series. I'm going to wait for the last book in Spotswood series to come out so I can binge read all 3 books together.
You know, when you think of it, there are way too many series out there. I like stand-alones better and I wish we had more of those.
Anyways, good luck in tackling all of those series this year! I'm so pleased to see R.L LaFevers series! :D
That's quite the list Siiri!!!! Good for you keeping track of where you are in all those series, I know I'm midway through so many but I couldn't even begin to tell you what they all are. I usually like to finish a series out, the exception to that would be if I know a character dies. I haven't finished a couple series because I've had good blogging friends tip me off that something happens I'm not going to like, and I so appreciate that. I don't want to get all invested in a story if it ends a way I know won't work for me. I can't help it. Cheating is another one. If there's cheating at any point in a series, I'll drop it and never revisit it. It's a deal breaker for me!
ReplyDeleteI suck at finishing series! I think most of them I only need one book to finish. If I don't read a book as soon as it's out then I end up forgetting about it or losing interest. One I really want to finish is the Veronica Rossi series.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me! I need to update this again, since I'm still busy with finishing series and I finished 3 already :) His fair assassins, such an awesome series <3
ReplyDeleteI have a BUNCH of series to finish, or at least catch up on all the books that are out so far. I decided to do the series challenge this year, and so I sat back and catalogued all the series books I'd started and needed to finish and the ones I wanted to check out and DEAR GOD. It's a mountain.
ReplyDeleteI've got my nifty reading schedule in the background guiding me though, so I'm thinking it's a mountain I can climb
Am I the only one whose pretty good at finishing series? LOL it's not recently that i've started giving up on a few if i feel no real connection with. I used to read an entire series to it's end. i just had to know how ot ended. Even if i didn't like the ending. Part of it stems from not reading AS many series as other people. Don't get me wrong i've read a lot of series but i feel like os many other people read WAY more than I do while i tend to research series A LOT before giving them a shot and seeing if i'll like it. Hopefully you end up finishing some of these series!
ReplyDeleteLily @ Lilysbookblog
Wow, that is quite a list. I haven't been through to see what I am missing, but if it isn't out I don't suppose it counts in my mind yet.
ReplyDeleteI know that I will not be finishing Unearthly or the delirium because I couldn't get into the 2nd books.
To be honest, I don't even know if I could make a list because there are so many series where I've read the first book and meant to read the rest but I can't even remember them. Does Goodreads have some kind of function where I can check out what series I've started? I would love to do it too! I adore series, but I've noticed there are too many that I start and then lost track of the books. :p
ReplyDelete-P.E. @ The Sirenic Codex
That is a lot of series. I used to feel compelled to finish every series I start, even when I lost interest. Now, unless I love it, it doesn't bother me. Like, I probably won't read the last of TMI books. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteThat's a long list, Siiri! I lose interest with series' when they're published a year apart. I start off really excited to read the 2nd book after I've read the first and then time goes by and I just don't really care anymore. That's why I try not to pick up anything where I can't read one book right after the other. I also have luck with companions. I see the His Fair Assassin Series up there and I'll definitely read the next one, because it focuses on a different couple with each book. Yes, there's a continuing story arc but I don't have to remember everything about it to enjoy it. I don't have to reread the last book. Good luck with your goal! :)
ReplyDeleteOh man, Siiri. I used to be a strong series-finisher. Like, I was SHOCKED when I heard about people who waited so long to finish the series and there I am, just a chomping at the bit. But now, I've gone the other way and haven't finished a lot of the series. It's like you said, I'm kind of nervous to finish. Another reason is other books are bigger priorities. Or it's like tasting a piece of food and being satisfied with that taste, you might get around to the leftovers later (me and my food metaphors;) I know you can finish that list! *waves pom-poms*
ReplyDeleteBtw, have I told you how much I love your design? BECAUSE I DO.
that's a good question. I've started so many series, like hundreds, and I don't really keep tracks, so I forget about some, I have also many sequels at home and when the series is really long it's a little difficult. But I finish some, it's a good start right?
ReplyDeleteI always try to finish series whose second books I've already read. When I only read the first one and wasn't impressed by it, I usually just don't bother anymore. But if there's only one book left to read, I make certain that I get that finale. Most of the times, it's worth it, and sometimes, not really, but hey at least you got that closure right? :D Hopefully you get to your goal, Siiri! That's quite a long list and I'm thankful mine isn't that long :P Then again, I'm not really as pressured to get to the next books quickly (unless it's by Anne Bishop, then that's another story!)
ReplyDeleteFaye at The Social Potato Reviews
Holy crap, Siiri! We have 23 unfinished series in common (plus I need to finish the Rossi series too). And I don't really have a reason for not finishing them other than I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I plan to. Eventually. I'm planning on finishing JLA's Lux series when book 5 comes out, same for Mara Dyer, so if you wanna BR lemme know! Great post ;)
ReplyDeleteJessica @ Rabid Reads
wow that's a lot, but I am in the same boat as you. I have a very very long list as well :( I think the only series I finished was The Hunger Games, and I actually did NOT finish Harry Potter. I stopped reading the last book half way, omg.. yep...
ReplyDeleteAs for the rest. Some I gave up on, too many books and they started to go downhill and others I am totally scared of finishing.
I've been soooooo disappointed with series ends this year, which has left me very nervous about finishing them. But I am generally pretty good about getting through series I've started. You have some good ones listed here, and I hope you enjoy them. BUT I also think you should give yourself permission to drop series that you're not fully enjoying. I've been trying to do that more and more to save myself frustration. I have so much to read anyway. I'll be following your progress on this - and thanks for the mention!!
ReplyDeleteI'm the opposite of you :o Honestly when I actually enjoy a series I will be itching for the next book and will definitely continue it as soon as possible. I hate cliffhangers and I need the resolution to them stat! Now that I think of it, the majority of books I read are part of a series.
ReplyDeleteThat's a big list girl! I wish you the best of luck with it and I hope you enjoy a lot of the series' (:
