Review: Ricochet by Krista and Becca Ritchie

Title: Ricochet (Addicted #1.5)
Author: Krista and Becca Ritchie

Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | The Book Depository

As a sex addict, Lily Calloway must do the impossible. Stay celibate for 90 days.
Cravings and fantasies become her new routine, but while Loren Hale recovers from his alcohol addiction, Lily wonders if he’ll realize what a monster she really is. After all, her sexual compulsions begin to rule her life the longer she stays faithful to him.
Progress. That’s what Lily’s striving for. But by trying to become closer to her family—people who aren’t aware of her addiction—she creates larger obstacles. When she spends time with her youngest sister, she learns more about her than she ever imagined and senses an unsettling connection between Daisy and Ryke Meadows.
With Lily and Lo’s dysfunctional relationship teetering and unbalanced, they will need to find a way to reconnect from miles apart. But the inability to “touch” proves to be one of the hardest tests on their road to recovery. Some love brushes the surface. Some love is deeper than skin.
Lily and Lo have three months to discover just how deep their love really goes.

I’m not quite sure why I didn’t read this right when I got it on Amazon after it first came out August 2013. By now I’m sure almost all of you know about my obsession with this series—I absolutely love it to pieces; to the tiniest details. It’s such a quirky, emotional and well-crafted story about two addicts fighting for not only their own health and well-being, but for each other as well. It’s inspiring!

“You don't make me miserable. You make me want to live. And I want to live with you.”

I love allllll the main characters in these books. We get to know Rose and Connor better (which I very much approve of since they’re my favorite couple from the whole series) and in addition to that we see the blossoming friendship between Ryke and Daisy. I adored that we got to see Lily grow on her own and I was rooting for her so badly to succeed, to not give into her cravings. The scene during Daisy’s birthday where Lily has an emotional meltdown and Ryke tries to find a solution? Yeah, I had some tears in my eyes, not gonna lie. The Lily Vow Day scene? Laughed out loud so hard when Connor whistled and Ryke clapped. This book is full of inspiring incidents, scenes and quotes; lots of swoon moments from the past and present both.

I did have a few issues with Ricochet and as much as it pains me to say it, the main one was Daisy. I just didn’t get her at all in this book. Perhaps she’s just too much of an energy ball for me, but I like her in all the other books, so I guess she’s not that big of a problem for me? Idk. A tad confused here myself. The other thing that bothered me was Ryke, because he was such a douche to Lily sometimes. I get where he’s coming from though, why he supports Lo more than Lily etc, but still. He did apologize at the end of the novel, so I forgive him. It’s hard to be liked by him, but once you get to the point where he cares, he won’t let you go. That’s what I like the most about him.

Anyhow, if you haven’t read this series yet, come on! Do yourself a favor and START IT IMMEDIATELY. RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND. This novella was a solid 4 star read for me, but only for the fact that I know what’s coming next ;) I loved Addicted for Now to the moon and back. Ricochet is the perfect build up for the emotional journey that waits ahead of Lily and Lo and I cannot wait to get my hands on Thrive (which comes out July 18th!). Pssst! It has more Connor in it and perhaps even some of my favorite scenes from Kiss the Sky :’)

Overall rating: 4.3 out of 5.0

  1. wow it's a beautiful review! Isn't it awesome when all the characters are great? I always love that! I didn't know about this one I confess, but it's nice to see it's a great series. I'll have to try!

  2. Oh how could I resist Siiri? I wish I could pick it up ASAP after yours and Christy's continuing awesome reviews for it, but I haven't gotten the chance to yet. A shame how Daisy becomes a bit too much for you to handle at times during this book, and I don't like douchey guys. At least Ryke kind of redeemed himself though.

    Lovely review Siiri! x

    1. It's hard to explain. Ryke comes off very harsh and douchy at times. He's the a-hole you want to root for. He has this soft side to him that you can't get enough of. He's one of the most carinf people you'll ever meet in fiction, but he's also extremely straight-forward and it comes off as rude quite often. As for Daisy, I love her energy, but she is a tad too much for me sometimes. Her own book totally makes up for what I lacked in Ricochet though :)

  3. Yay, another brilliant review of this series, Siiri! You know how much I want to try and finish this series off. I've been inspired by all of your reviews for this one. I do love this sort of NA and I WILL finish this series, promise. Loved when you said Ryke was a douche. LOL! It looks like a very well crafted novella, can't wait to read it myself. Lovely review as always, Siiri! :) x

  4. Krista and Becca are the sweetest, and I'm so glad to hear their novels are doing well. This sounds awesome, as does the rest of the series. Fabulous review, Siiri!

  5. I know how much you love this series and you scare me sometimes with your love (JK). I am actually not a fan of the Daisy and Ryke pairing at all.. I mean you already know I'd rather Connor and Rose never got together but the idea of Ryke and Daisy is just really weird to me. Plus I am weird in the way that I don't like it when everyone is in a happy happy relationship. IDK. I AM WEIRD. That's why I just ship Lo and Lily so much and why they're my favorite couple. There is something about them that will always make you root for them. No matter what.

LOVELY review, CY (OOPS I MEANT SIIRI) and I am so so so happy you loved this!

    1. They're my least fav pairing of all 3 simply because I loooooooove Rose and Connor, and Lily and Lo are just epic. Heh. I usually don't like it either when everyone's in a happy-happy relationship, but it works for these books. LOL! I know why you don't like Rose and Connor. I feel so sad that you're not a Rose fan. I guess you'll never find her that likable until you've read Kiss the Sky *hint hint*

    2. HINT SUCCESSFULLY AVOIDED
      (I ducked)

I wanted Connor all on his lonesome so I could crush on him like crazy and then he had to go get himself in a relationship and become lovey dovey :P
      *shakes fist at him*

    3. YOU DID NOT HAHAHA. They are kind of lovey dovey. The kind that makes them happy. There's no other way I'd imagine either of them being more or less lovey dovey than they are with each other. They're a perfect match. It hurts my sould that you do not see it and refuse to understand my feels *starts sobbing* Oh, well! LOL. Sorry to say this, but if Connor Cobalt is ever without Rose (which could happen in another life maybe; if even that.. probably not), I have already taken him to myself. NO ONE GETS IN MY WAY WHEN IT COMES TO CONNOR COBALT. OKAY? OKAY. AND UGHHH. This stupid TFiOS joke just keeps getting in my way everywhere. HAAAAALP!!!

    4. WE'LL WORK SOMETHING OUT WHEN THE TIME COMES. You know, it's weird, when I read book 1, I imagined him in a weird relationship with Lo and Lily.. not a sexual one but... the three were such a cool group. :P
      BAHAHAHAAAHHAAHHAH
my friend and I still find ourselves cracking up over lame metaphor jokes :P

but I have minimized my usage of Okay? Okay. It always reminds me of the book that must not be named and the author that should be shamed.

I HATE IT. THE BOOK TOOK AWAY OKAY? Okay. from me!

  6. Ha I love your passion for this series Siiri, I know that should be encouragement for me enough to give this series a go. Also how fantastic to these characters sound? I also love it when a book has you totally invested into it. That hasn't happened with me for a long time, maybe I should give this book a go a lot more sooner! Lovely review!

  8. *hangs head in shame* I haven't started this series yet Siiri. I KNOW!!!!!!!!! It's on my list for sure though since I know how much you and Nick love it, and pretty much every review I've read for any of the books has been glowing. Interesting that Ryke is a bit of an ass throughout, but I I'm glad you were able to forgive him in the end. He sounds like a challenge, and I love a good challenging character:)

  9. I haven't read this one either and honestly after your description of Ryke and Daisy, I don't think I want. I already have this great image of them in my head, as I'm sure you (and the whole world) probably know, so I don't want Daisy's over-excitement and Ryke's assholeness to affect my feelings for them.
It's great that you still enjoyed this and had some fun moments with it, especially when it came to Lily. Seriously, the last book needs to come out soon as I'm not sure if I'll be reading Thrive.
Great review as always you! :)

  12. Ricochet wasn't one of my faves and I have to agree about Daisy in this one. I love Ryke though, but it took until book 2 for me to really understand him! Great review Siiri. You have me hooked on this series!
