Review: My Soul to Keep by Rachel Vincent

Soul Seekers series is filled with loads of potential. I think it’s like with Vampire Academy­ – the first two books are like build up for the rest of them and that’s when the real action begins. My Soul to Keep was definitely darker and more twisted than the previous ones. It was different, but enjoyed it quite a bit!

So.. *ahem* I adored Nash in the previous books. He was sweet, understanding, patient, compassionate, protective and sexy. But I didn’t remember him being so horny all the time. Yeah, there was a lot of smooching and smexy going on, but never like this. In addition to making out, this book had some really dark stuff going on from the very start. Things quickly took a turn towards bad and after a while even from bad to worse.

I still think I’m smarter than Kaylee. I mean… Come on, Kaylee! Those balloons? Did you ever think that you were the one who came to that idea in the first place? Why didn’t you consider that possibility? Didn’t it seem familiar? At the first mention of balloons I knew what it was. I didn’t know who the catalyst was to this though and boy did it took me by surprise!

The character who really came to life in this installment was Tod – my snarky, sweet, selfish, yet selfless, handsome reaper. I just love you so much! I didn’t think you’d steal my heart away from Nash, but you did. You’re plain awesome!! I wish we could have had more scenes with Kay’s Dad, too. He is another character I absolutely adore. He knows he made a mistake by leaving her years ago, but now he’s here, trying to make up for the years they lost and he is doing a darn awesome job! LOL @ his attitude and “Go home, Nash!“ comments. Bahahahhaha. Poor Nash…

I feel like this is a turning point in this series and for that I’m glad. I want things to go even darker. Hopefully the following books are going to be that and feature more Kaylee’s Father and Tod. *fingers crossed* Oh, and by the way, there was a cover reveal for the third volume. I already purchased it and when I did, it was under 6€ (8$) on TBD and it has books 5 and 6 and Sophie’s novella in it. Quite a great deal, if you ask me and that cover doesn’t hurt my eyes either ;) Anyway, I cannot wait to clear my schedule and read the next one already.

I was really excited for this book. That cover was what initially caught my eye, but the story sounded great, too. I looked forward to reading about golf, rivals and romance, but when I was about 70 % through I finally realized that I would not like this book even if there would be a 5 star ending, which, unfortunately was not there. It’s my honest opinion that this book was a huge disappointment. I’m glad I didn’t get a paperback, because I only want to re-read books that are on my real shelf, not a virtual one, and this book did not do it for me. I found the characters lacking in personality department, the chemistry was off and it was just all over the place. The only reason it gets higher than 1 stars is because of the idea and that it featured a native American girl which I haven’t seen around that much lately.

Play With Me is a cute novella of Liza, Tony and Ryan. Liza and tony are best friends and Liza has had a crush on him since forever. Ryan is Tony’s soccer teammate and a good friend. When Liza sees that Tony has eyes for another girl, she steps up her game and wants to join the soccer team. All of this becomes a hot mess. I loved Ryan. Ugh, he was such a sweetheart! I know he had a ladies man reputation, but he only had eyes for one girl. This book was cute. I liked it, but I didn’t love it.  I thinks most of it is Liz's fault, because I was just so confused by her, but in the end it’s a really short read with an awesome boy trying to win a girl who is in love with someone else. I advise you to read this one if you’re in a need of a short book while riding a bus or a train because it doesn’t need a lot of attention to understand and it moves on quickly.

I read this book a while ago. Let me tell you a secret, I hate that after reading so many books I sometimes don’t even remember what a certain book was about. Sometimes I completely blank out when someone asks me about the characters or mentions a name from named book and I just stare like a total idiot. Well.. This book is rememberable! I liked the idea that girls stand up for themselves, boycott making out and giving their boyfriends the time of their day, because they want to make other things count and achieve their goals. This boys vs. girls war was so hilarious, romantic and fun, fun, fun! I enjoyed it thoroughly. The characters were great, their chemistry was sweet and at times sizzling. I really liked the storylines and temptations that they put each other through. It’s a fun story to spice up your day with laughter since it’s bound to make you laugh and smile. Even though I didn't enjoy DUFF, all of the other books I've read by Kody have been great and I'm really looking forward to her next ones.

Top 3 Bookish Moments of February

I can't believe it's March already and two months of 2013 are already over. Time flies at the speed of light. So what are my three bookish moments of February, you ask? Hmhhh.. Let me think. I believe these sum them up:

Finishing the Hush Hush Saga. 

Ugh, it's so frustrating that it's finally over, but it feels good, too, you know? I kind of lost hope when I read Crescendo (Hush Hush #2) and was afraid that maybe Becca doesn't have that much to say anymore in Finale (Hush Hush #4), but it was beautiful and emotional. You can read all about my thoughts in my review which I hope will be up before March ends.

Announcements by my favorite Ms. Collen Hoover.

Will's story (Slammed #3) will be out in April yay! Hopeless' paperback will be out soon, too. Oh, and the best thing eveeeerrr?? Holder POV of Hopeless will be out in July *dies* Yes, you heard me! *does a win-dance: uh-uh-uh   uh-uh-uh   uh-uh-uh-uh-uhuhhhh* You can read all about Holder's thoughts on it here.

Cover reveal for The Fiery Heart. 

Okay, let's get one thing straight: I am not, unfortunately, a fan of that cover, but I am glad that it was revealed. I think it's growing on me the more I look at it, but I'm still not a fan. I haven't read The Indigo Spell yet, but I will when we're closer to The Fiery Heart. This cover reveal means that TFH is really freaking coming and Adrian POV, baby!!!!! Win! *swoons* Yes! This is just uh-mazeballs! What do you think of that cover, though? Like? Dislike? Why so?

Review: Night School by C.J. Daugherty

The way I got this book is a funny coincidence. I watched the unwrapping ARCParty of Epic Reads and I saw that everyone was so ecstatic about Night School. I then discovered that I had it as a TBR already on GR. I didn’t pay much attention to its author, because I knew it hadn’t come out in the States yet and I don’t request for ARCs that often. A few days after I went to my local library here in Estonia and came across a book which from Estonian translates to Night School in English. Since the covers were so different, I didn’t know it was THAT book until I got home and marked it as reading. LOL, imagine my surprise when I found out I got to read a book that most of the peeps haven’t even read yet. It was translated from the UK version and I’m happy I got to read it since it was pretty good!

This book is about politics, secrets, relationships and mystery in a private school where our protagonist, Allie, finds herself after another arrest by the police. Her brother ran away from home and she’s so torn up about it even though she doesn’t admit it to herself. Her parents don’t know what to do with her protest attitude so they send her away, too, in hopes of her becoming better. Soon Allie realizes that there is more going on than it seems at first sight.

I read it practically in one sitting and the mystery kept me on my toes throughout the whole book. I kept waiting for some supernatural creatures, especially vampires, to show up but, color me surprised, again, because there weren’t any. I think there are some in the sequel, but I would never know, because I'm not going to read the sequel (more on that in the next paragraph). There were murders, though, and the secrets that surround the school history and what the pupil in the Night School department do, who belong among them etc – it just drove me insane. In a good way, if that’s even impossible. Allie is a snarky heroine and her curios, but rational mind is what sets her apart from others in this book. Her friends were all a little crazy, but it was fun watching them interact and do stuff like play cricket or tennis in the middle of the night.

What I didn’t enjoy was the love triangle. I liked Carter. I really did! However, I didn’t like Sylvain. Quite honestly, I loathed him. There are mild spoilers ahead, so if you don’t want to read them, just skip the end of this paragraph! Okay. Consider yourself warned! If someone were to molest me, I could never EVER look at them the same way again or want anything to do with them. By mistake I learned what goes down in the next book with the love triangle and I hate this news so much that I won’t be continuing this series. I don’t care if you redeem yourself, you are not redeemable if you force yourself on a girl!!!! I'm afraid of what kind of a message it sends to young girls out there  reading this book and it’s a pity, because I really enjoyed this book. 

So that being said, I found this book to be a mix of Hogwarts without magic, but a touch of crime and secrets. Some horrible things happened, mystery was suspenseful and the characters were quite intriguing. Since I accidentally read some spoilers on GR and found out what happens next, I won’t be continuing with this series, because as much as I liked this book, I loathe what happened in one scene and it is not redeemable in my eyes. This is a thing I cannot forgive and since Allie does, I dislike her character as much as his. Other than that, I think it’s a good book and worth exploring.
