Severine Blake has seen far too many friends taken down in the crossfires of dating. She devises a precise course of action to protect her heart. The plan is working very well...until she meets Thayer and Macsen.
When the Sloan brothers come into her life, nothing is the same.
Thayer is self-possessed, arrogant and used to getting what he wants. Being near him leaves Severine unsteady and shaken. He makes her question everything.
Macsen contradicts his brother in every way. His calm personality captivates her. Severine is drawn to him instantly.
But Severine quickly discovers that when you want something, that want can turn wicked. Giving in is not always easy, especially when your heart refuses to give up the fight.
What little illusion of love Severine has is soon destroyed. Every option is broken, and the protection she has built around her heart instantly crumbles.
There's just no right way with the Sloan brothers.

I find it great to discover new authors and Calia Read definitely delivered it for me with this book. I had it on my tbr shelf for quite some time and finally decided to pick it up a few months ago. It was practically a one day read for me and I quite enjoyed this thrilling ride of chemistry and seduction.

“She sketched this moment into her mind, because nothing could be so perfect. Nothing could stay right, and last.”

The story. We have Severine as our MC and while being in a café with her friend, she meets two brothers. Two very hot brothers at that. Thayer and Macsen are every girl’s dream and she picks both of their interest. One she likes, the other just infuriates her. One likes her, the other not so much. However, there’s just something about that other guy that Severine can’t put her finger on. Something that enflames her and as the masks come off, she has to make a decision – set herself free with the true owner of her heart or continue to pretend in this relationship that’s bound to end up as a shipwreck.

My thoughts. I was so team Thayer, you have no idea! That guy was hot and hidden behind all that hotness was actually a genuine heart, a good brain and on top of that, he was also a great basketball player. A full package! I liked Macsen, but I didn’t found him to have that much chemistry with Severine so team Thayer it was. Even though I was frustrated with Severine at times, I was glad that she didn’t cheat even though she was tempted when she wasn’t happy in her relationship with one of the (half-)brothers. Plus it helps that the two men weren't on great terms with their brotherly relationship.

I’m pumped up for the next book to see what happens with everyone and oh, my favorite character aside from Thayer was probably Chris. Hahahaha! He just cracked me up. This book was good and I enjoyed the butterflies-in-my-stomach and swoon-worthy moments by my guy – Thayer – and I also can’t wait for that Thayer’s POV which takes place in the future. Yay! I would have liked Severine to stand up for herself before and end the relationship with the one she didn't choose, but the tension between her and the brother she chose at the end was so delicious, that I often overlooked it. Also, I liked that these people actually studied. College isn't all parties--you have to pass in your classes you know. Lol. They even had study groups which was awesome.

Every Which Way didn’t make me cry so I can’t give that extra point for that, but I had fun with it even though Severine was somewhat of a nutjob for me at times. I’d recommend it to all New Adult lovers out there and it’s perfect for the summer season. I’m excited for the companion novel and what’s next to come for these characters since most of them sneaked their way into my heart and I’m sure they all have more stories to be told.

  1. I have this one and I started it a while back but I couldn't get into it. Maybe it was the mood I was in, but I had a hard time with Severine. I'm glad to see you enjoyed it and want to continue with the series. I'll have to pick this back up! Wonderful review! :)

    1. I had a tough time with Severine as well at the beginning and I didn't really forgive her for all the shit she put herself (and the guys) through with her indecisions, but you know what?! I let that 'minor' thing slip right past me since the rest of it was good and spiced with the right amount of drama for a light contemporary read. I hope you'll enjoy it once you pick this one up:)

  2. I haven't heard of this one before, but it sounds really good. I especially love the name Thayer! There's something so sexy about it! ;)
Yay for college students who actually study beside partying all nights. Have you read One Tiny Lie yet? I swear to God, these characters were in Stanford but they partied every single night! I was pretty much like WTF? throughout that book. I mean, this is Stanford we are talking about.
Anyways, this sounds like a fun read. I need to check it out!
    Fabulous review, Siiri! <3

    1. I KNOW! Thayer -- mmmmm!!! That's an extremely smexy name ;) I haven't read OTL yet, but it's up soon for me. I've heard that people were kinda disappointed in that one since Livie goes all kinds of crazy with her partying and guys which is not who she was in TTB. I don't know what to think about that. I get your frustration. I may not be from the states, but come on! Standford is serious and wth are you even doing there if all you do is party lol. Haha.

  3. First of all, the girl on that cover is beautiful. I want eyes that color! Second, I'm trying to decide if I want to read this one Siiri. Love triangles are sorely trying my patience of late, so I'm not sure if it's fair to read this one while I'm still all sensitive about them. I do like that she doesn't cheat at all, that would be a deal breaker for me, and Thayer does sound HOT so maybe I need to just suck it up and read huh? :)

    1. She has compelling eyes, I agree! I only know one person with green eyes and that's one of my best friends. They're rare, but oh so pretty! The love triangle.. Hmhh.. How do I say this? You can tell from the start how it will go, like you CAN predict the outcome. It had a few bumps on the road (okay, plenty of them), but in the end Thayer.. oh, yeah. It was worth reading it just for him ;)

  7. Oooh, this one sounds fantastic. I'm so biased whenever there are basketball players. Why? One Tree Hill. Seriously, that show has made me swoon for any Lucas and Nathan-like characters. So...I'd most likely be obsessed with Thayer :D

  8. UH OH. LOVE TRIANGLE alert. I'll probably be skipping this one, but I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  9. First off, can I just say that that cover is gorgeous? Her EYE. *stares* *clears throat* Ehm, I came here after your last review, where you mentioned the similar love triangle brother plot and how it worked in this book.

"I would have liked Severine to stand up for herself before and end the relationship with the one she didn't choose, but the tension between her and the brother she chose at the end was so delicious, that I often overlooked it. Also, I liked that these people actually studied. College isn't all parties--you have to pass in your classes you know."

YAY OMG. One of my huge pet peeves about some NA books is that there isn't enough of the *college* aspect in there, so that makes me happy... and romantic tension tends to make me happy too :P. I am a bit miffed that she's attracted to Macsen, though he's not as nice in the beginning. (Look, I'm already Team Thayer!)

    1. Team Thayer FTW!!! He was incerdibly hot, sweet and just... brrr *shudders* hot :D haha. He was intense--the good kind of intense and just the right amount of mysterious. He doesn't come off as sweet at first, but when we finally get to know him, we understand that he's quite the charmer. :)
