Hey guys! My post should have went up this morning, but since I was seeing Catching Fire today, I decided to post this afterwards to share my feels because there were so many!!!! Oh, my, you guys! This movie... I have no words. I literally thought that Twilight had doomed every single YA adaption, but no! This movie held its own and I loved every moment of it. I read the books ages ago and didn't re-read them because I didn't want to be disappointed by the movie, but I'm pretty sure that even if I had read 'em, I still would have enjoyed it thoroughly. It was so good that I wouldn't change a thing. I laughed, cried and was anxious to see what happens next and it was just.. fantastic! Anyhow, you're here for my haul, so let's get on with it, shall we? On Monday I reviewed Wait for You and I was mostly satisfied with the story. I especially liked Cam and Jase and their books are up next. Firstly Cam's which cover was revealed yesterday. I hope this will be better male-pov than Walking Disaster which I came to.. dislike. Strongly. And now I dislike Beautiful Disaster as well.. Such a shame. I hope this won't be the case. Anyhow, Cam's an awesome, gentelman-ish, sweet, caring, fun guy and I have faith this book will be good. I hope:) You've probably already seen the cover, but wanna see it again? When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?
And some things are worth fighting for…

We all know how talented Jen is and I have seen very few reviews that didn’t have great words to say about Wait for You so naturally I was excited to jump into this. I did get a lot of awesome things from this novel, but I can’t say I’m totally obsessed with this book. Let me break it down for you in detail.

“As long as the sun’s shining, shit can’t be that bad.” 

The story. Avery is a 19 year-old freshman in college and on the first day of school she runs into this gorgeous guy Cameron. Let’s just say that this isn’t the last time these two meet unexpectedly. Soon they are forced to spend time together and so the unlikely friendship begins and maybe, just maybe it’ll blossom into something more. Only if Avery is able to let go of her past and move forward.

My thoughts. I did very much enjoy the banter between Avery and Cameron and even though at first I didn’t feel their chemistry (it may have been from lack of sleep), the more I spent time with them, the more I felt their attraction towards each other. I also liked Avery’s new friends Brittany and Jacob as well as Cam’s roommate Ollie and their friend Jase. What I also liked was how Jen managed to write the book as an evolving piece which took its time and didn’t rush into the L-bomb or anything near that before it was actually time. It felt organic.

Now.. What I didn’t like. There wasn’t much, I can’t really pinpoint out the exact moment I realized that it wasn’t that original of a story. Maybe it’s not supposed to be. Jen’s writing makes up for the lack of originality, but at the same time, I’m a contemporary lover and perhaps it’s due to the fact that I have read so many New Adult books lately that they all melt a little together for me. Nothing except for Cam – being a great guy, not a mysterious, haunted, broken man – stood out for me. And I wasn’t a fan of his at the beginning either. He just kinda grew on me.

All in all, I did enjoy Wait for Me and I’m looking forward to spending time with the other characters in addition to Cam and Avery in the following sequels. I hope that they’ll all be as good as Wait for You if not even better since I have faith that Jen can pull something more original out of the bag. Perhaps my issue with this one was the lack of originality due to having read many similar books, but hey – Jen’s writing is awesome and if you’re a fan of New Adult and contemporary at that, then I advise you to check this baby out.

Review: Frigid by Jennifer L. Armentrout aka J. Lynn

But when they're stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor'easter, there's nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

Ohhhkay. Let me get this straight: I KNOW there are people out there who absolutely loved this book and I am sorry for what I am about to say. It's solely my opinion, it doesn't have to match yours. I am glad that you were able to enjoy something by Jennifer since she is a kick-a author. For me, unfortunately, this was the weakest I have read by Jennifer. Let me tell you why.

“How much snow are they calling for?” “Somewhere between a lot and holy fuck.” 

The story. Sydney has been in love with her best friend Kyler forever. Kyler is by any means a man-whore with no dignity. He is cocky and doesn't realize that Sydney wants him more than a friend. They go up to the mountains to spend a weekend skiing with their friends just like every year, however, this year is going to be different. There's a huge snow storm and only these two end up in this frigid house with their past mistakes haunting them and it seems like someone else is out to get them as well.

My thoughts. Maybe if there would have been more Kyler's point of view, I would have understood him more, but no. I just found him to be a jerk who had redeemable qualities, but he didn't redeem his behaviour to me by any means. He was like an imperfect Daemon Black 2.0. He was constantly with other girls, but god forbid that Syd gets a guy. He went bonkers and got out of his way to keep her away from any potential love interest. Look, I like Jen's writing, I do, but all of her books and characters are starting to melt together for me to the point where I don't separate Seth, Daemon and Kyler from each other and the same goes for Katy, Avery and Sydney. There are more examples, but they're all basically the same. Seth may not ever get the girl, but the rest of the ones I brought up: a nerdy, cute, avarage girl getting it on with a cocky, charismatic, hot guy. You see a trend here? Because I do.

I thought the plot sounded interesting and enjoyable, but it turned out to be poorly executed. In my eyes only, of course. I know that Jen's capable of so much more and this was just.. blahhh. I found Sydney to be so annoying. She needed saving every step of the way. She spent time laying on the ground or getting hurt other ways and getting hit or falling more than I could count. She is the definition of a clutz. Also, she just kept pining and whining and going on and on and on about Kyler. I grew tired of that by the 5th chapter if not sooner. Kyler was just all-out annoying for me. 'nuff said. And let's not even start about the whole 'someone is out to get us murdered' storyline. What. In. The. World. I guessed who was behind it as soon as they started talking about it. I mean, come on! Really? Really? *rolls eyes* Oh, and the first half of the books was spent on building up anticipation and when it finally happened, it was sex for at least 4 chapters straight. That was too much, I'm telling you. I just skipped that part after reading the first sex chapter. Wayyyy too much!

The best part of the novel was the tree climbing scene. I wish that their best friends would have been more in the picture. Right now I can't remember their names. Was the guy Trevor? I may be wrong. Anyhow, if you've read this one, you know who I'm talking about. I thoroughly enjoyed their relationship and I wish there would have been more scenes including them, them starting a relationship storyline etc. I also enjoyed that the MCs weren't damaged. That's refreshing.

I hope I didn't offend anyone with this rant, but I just couldn't hold it in me. I didn't enjoy this one. It isn't the worst book I've read, but it was the worst by Jen that I've read. She didn't wow me this time even though I was ready to be blown away. I can totally see what people like in this book, but I'm getting tiresome of the same guys and girls playing the main role and in my eyes, the story wasn't that well executed. I'm not giving up on Jen with this book. She's still a rockstar author and I'm looking forward to reading something else by her.

A question to the big circle: don't you think this would have worked better as a Christmas/winter read as opposed to being published in mid July *__*

I haven't received any paperbacks throughout this time other than The Sea of Tranquility--love that book--which I loaned to my mom and she took it to her vacation with her so I can't show it to you this week. Also, I put Opal in my haul as well, because I haven't featured it here yet. I'm going to read it right before Origin, though, I don't handle cliff hangers all that well, lol. Also, after I was done taking photographs for my haul, I started studying for my presentation in Food Science for Uni and my cat (he's so small that he's a lot of the times mistaken for a kitten), as always, wanted me to play with him rather than study so he came and demanded most of my attention to himself. Since I had the camera still in my hands, I made a few pictures of him and I wanted to share his awesomeness with you. He is such a cutiepie! Whenever he sleeps in my bed, he snuggles up to my body and puts his head on one of my pillows. Ok, lol! I'm going to stop here, otherwise I won't stop at all. Top 3 Bookish Moments of December

December was a really quiet time for me in the sense of books, but I still managed to pick my top three out of the few that stood out for me (in no particular order):

1. I received my copy of Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick, yay! Hush Hush was my first ever angel book and I got pretty much addicted to Patch, to put it mildly *blushes* so yeah.. I'm sad to let him go, but I'm anxious to see what's gonna happen next for Patch and Nora in this final installment of the saga.
2. Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout came out in December. Wohooo!! I have a paperback on my shelf already (though, now that I think about it, I think I haven't featured it in any of my hauls O_O) and I'm excited to read it. I think I'm gonna read it in May/June though, because there's supposedly a cliffhanger like no other. Can't wait to devour Origin already. Daemon POV, peeps!! Eeek!!!
3. Reading Hopeless by Colleen Hoover and The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay. Finishing a year of great reads with these amazing contemporary books couldn't have been any better. I think these two books are must-reads for every book lover out there. Even if we agree to disagree I'm always excited to see what people think of them.

Review: Deity by Jennifer L. Armentrout

If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.

Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

Okay, so here’s the deal! I found Pure, the second novel in this series, pretty fascinating and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone was extremely excited about Deity and some of the readers even claimed it was the best book they have ever read. Ever!! Taking that into account it was natural that I had very high expectations. I can say that I was satisfied, but unfortunately Deity did not meet my expectations. Let me tell you why.

His gaze fell to the god. He sneered. “You want to fight me now, in your
true form?”
“I will fight you in any form, you little punk-ass brat.”
Seth laughed. “You can’t kill me.”
“But I can beat the living snot out of you.”

I find it incredibly irritating when a book in a series ends and the next one picks up three months later. Or even more. Deity didn’t disappoint in that area, because we find out what happened after that final battle in Pure and how things have enrolled from there. Alex is back in Covenant and trying to figure out how to deal with all that she encountered in New York. When she receives an unexpected message from Laadan, she doesn’t know how to digest the news. I kind of already figured that one out in Pure, but in case you didn’t, then know that this bomb is big!

The beginning was great, but then everything kind of stilled. I looked forward to all the action and fighting, but there was practically none and when it did happen, it was minor. Deity was more of an emotional journey for Alexandria and I felt like she lost her spunk and spark a little bit. I know how much she's been through during the past year, but all these misty eyes and weak knees were really annoying. She’s becoming a woman and isn’t that irrational fire cracker she was before, but there’s something missing. Maybe it’s just me though.

As for the other characters, I’m completely in love with two of the side characters – Marcus and Deacon. I’ve felt warmth and sympathy for both of them from the very beginning, but as the series has progressed, I’ve come to love them even more. The most exciting thing was probably the Gods making their appearence. I found their interaction with Alex and the crew absolutely thrilling and I can’t wait to get more of them intervening into the power games of the Covenant society and trying to take each other down while giving it their all to stop the history from repeating itself.

And then we have the love triangle. Look! I have got nothing against Seth nor do I dislike Aiden, but this triangle is just god-awful! We all know who she is going to end up with so why the heck did all of that happen in Pure? For Alex to have these "confused" feelings? Everything was turned upside down in Deity and on top of that these stupid spoilers were everywhere on Goodreads. I didn’t read any of the reviews to avoid that exact thing, but somehow some huge fan didn’t put spoiler tags while commenting on different topics. Then she excused herself by claiming her information "not-spilery". Well, dude, it was! Also, I'm so sick and tired of reading about Aiden's eyes changing colour. I get that already and why cannot there be a chapter without mentioning the colour change? I just don't get that. I've probably never rolled my eyes on that kind of a thing before. I think he is great, a little too copy cat of Dimitri Belikov and his zen lessons, but great nonetheless. Alex just needs to get a grip already, for god's sake!

At the end of the day it wasn’t a bad piece of work by Jennifer, but quite an ordinary one considering how much I’ve enjoyed her previous work. Also, I’m aware that my rating isn’t impartial, because the book was pretty much spoiled for me. Unintentional or not, it still bugged the heck out of me. I found the action lacking and characters losing their original wickedness and greatness. Therefore, I cannot give this book a 5 like almost every other blogger out there. I expect more from Apollyon and hopefully it’ll redeem the things I felt were lacking in this one.

Armentrout both announced that the next books in their series will be from dual point of views – Richelle's fourth installment of the Bloodlines Series, The Fiery Heart, will be from Sydney's as well as Adrian's POV and Jennifer will add Daemon's POV to Origin (Lux #4) in addition to Katy's. I'm so excited. I love both of these guys tremendously and couldn't be happier that they're included into telling the story to us.
2. Reading Charade by Nyrae Dawn. This book was pretty much incredible! I enjoyed every minute of it and re-read almost half the book as soon as I'd finished it the first time, because I couldn't get those heart-wrenching and emotional parts out of my mind. 3. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones finished filming. It feels like yesterday when I watched pictures from the first day on set and gosh, I just want to see that movie so bad!! I've watched the trailer probably more than 50 times by now and I'm still in awe of it. Does anyone know where I can get myself a time machine? I'm in desperate need of one. This better not be the end of the world this year, because there're lots of great books to be premiered on the big screen in 2013 in addition to TMI's first novel and I cannot. freaking. wait!

It was such a tough choice that I chose 10 of these lovely ladies and then put the others on a honorable mentions list down below. All of them deserve to be in the top ten and I think they're all absolutely fantastic! They've sacrificed a lot for their loved ones, been to battles beyond our imaginations, have great personalities and are just exceptional role models.

Today is the day of the most exciting cover reveal I've been a part of. I'm a huge fan of authors who create kick-ass characters, swoon-worthy guys (or, in this case, aliens) and know how to write an action-packed plot with a few unexpected twists on the road. Jennifer knows how to make our hearts beat faster and she's got that natural effortless talent. Sooo.. This crazy talented author has a new book coming up in her Lux series - Opal. My thoughts: I like that Pepe's eyes are emerald green (how come the best guys always have green eyes in books? Daemon Black, Adrian Ivashkov, ... ) and Sztella as Katy seems peaceful. After the events that took place at the end of Onyx (Lux #2), they aren't that at odds with each other and Katy's face in this picture shows their harmony perfectly. I'm not sure if this is my favorite cover, in my opinion, nothing can beat the epicness of Obsidian, but it is pretty cool, yes. I like the coloring. And what's up with that creepy face (left side) - probably an Arum - in the backround? Guess we'll find out in Opal. Are you excited? I know I am. This cover just made it all seem more real and I cannot wait to explore the awesomeness that is Opal.
